How we check

From public record to the pill you see.

We check how a VC fund deals with founders, using public sources you can open yourself. Every fact links to where it came from.

1

We pull the public record

Government lists, SEC filings, court dockets and named press for the fund, its advisers and its partners.

2

We confirm the match

An exact identity match, never name-only. Copycat names are left out.

3

We verify every source

A fact counts only if it links to the record, names the fund and shows its role.

4

You check before you sign

Open each check, follow the link to the original, save the fund and draw your own conclusions.

What we check

Legal records

Lawsuits by or against the fund, and its partners as directors, in US federal and state courts.

Court records

Regulators & sanctions

Registration filings, enforcement actions, and government sanctions and restriction lists.

Government filings & lists

Press

Named, dated reporting from established outlets. Anonymous-only claims don’t count.

News reporting

People behind the fund

Partners and advisers named in filings, checked against the same records.

How to read a check

Each check shows a pill, not a grade. A pill tells you what we found, then you open the source.

ClearReview1 open probe2 closed
  • Clear means we found nothing in the sources we checked. It is not a guarantee.
  • Review means there is a record worth reading. Counts show how many.

Principles

  • Exact matches only. Copycat names are excluded.
  • A suit the fund brought is shown differently from one brought against it.
  • A lawsuit or probe is not a finding of wrongdoing.
  • Where a source has no data, we say so instead of guessing.
